DIY Cleaning Products
Have you ever read the ingredients on the back of a cleaning bottle? I don't know about you, but I can't even pronounce most of them. And I have to admit. It does make me worry what I might be exposing my family to.
It's no surprise to find out that many ingredients used in household cleaners are carcinogenic, trigger asthma and allergies, cause endocrine disruption, antibiotic resistance, and skin irritation, just to name a few.
This is why I have felt the push to start making my own. The dangerous chemicals alone were enough reason to start whipping up my own cleaning products. So it was an added bonus when I realized I would be saving money every month by substituting DIY cleaners for store bought.
Here is my personal list of DIY cleaners!
👉All Purpose Cleaner
Ingredients:
•½ Cup Vinegar
•1 ½ Tablespoons Dawn Dish Soap
•½ Tablespoon Baking Soda
Directions:
1. In a small jar, add the baking soda, Dawn dish soap, and the vinegar, in that order.
2. You'll notice that the baking soda and vinegar makes a nice foam. Let the vinegar stop foaming before adding the mixture to the spray bottle.
3. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with water. You will have to stop every once in a while to let the foam die down a bit in order to get all of your water in the bottle.
👉Homemade Oven Cleaner
Supplies:
•1/2 cup baking soda
•2 – 3 Tbsp water (or more/less)
•1/2 cup vinegar
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, mix ½ cup of baking soda and stir in 2 – 3 tablespoons of water, adjusting as needed to get a spreadable paste.
2. Spread this all over the walls of your ovens, rubbing it in for a scrubbing effect.
3. Let that mixture rest overnight
4. In the morning, put some vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz everywhere you see baking soda, which will create a foaming action. Wipe clean with a damp cloth, rinsing until clean.
👉Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Supplies:
•Lemonaide flavored Kool-Aid. (Lemonade has citric acid, which helps clean the toilet bowl.)
Directions:
1. Flush your toilet, sprinkle a package of Kool-Aid lemonade around the sides & scrub with a toilet bowl brush
2. Let this sit for several hours (overnight is best), and then flush in the morning.
